NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan(after the right 4) and UOM President Tsuyomu Ikenoue(after the right 2) presided over a baseball tee NCYU Baseball Exchange with University of Miyazaki

The baseball team, led by Mr. Tsuyomu Ikenoue, President of University of Miyazaki (UOM), Japan, arrived at National Chiayi University on August 6th. UOM is a sister school of NCYU and it is the third time its delegation has visited the university. In addition to academic exchange, they also visited the NCYU baseball team as part of an on-site learning exchange. Both teams carried out a friendly match at Chiayi Baseball Field on August 7th and 8th at 5:00 p.m.

NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan indicated that both universities demonstrated a high similarity in terms of academic research realms, and have been actively engaged in exchange and cooperation programs even before the sister school agreement. This March, both universities signed an academic cooperation agreement and memorandum on student exchange at UOM, Japan. During the signing ceremony, UOM President Tsuyomu Ikenoue stressed his admiration for the Kano baseball spirit and the performance of the NCYU baseball team. In the days to come, he expressed his wished that there would be substantial exchange programs for teachers and students on both sides, and that their baseball players could learn alongside with the NCYU baseball team in Taiwan. NCYU President Chiou responded that Mr. Tsuyomu Ikenoue was being humble, and suggested that friendly matches be arranged to make the exchange more exciting, and also allow the baseball team players from both universities to participate in on-site practice.

UOM President Tsuyomu Ikenoue mentioned that UOM highly valued the baseball exchange, and invited the international umpire Sujeewa Wijayanayake to act as umpire-in-chief for the first friendly match on August 7th. Mr. Sujeewa comes from Sri Lanka, and has been in the field of baseball since senior high. In 2006, he began studies and joined the baseball team at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. He has been serving as an umpire for ten years, and is the first foreign umpire for Koshien games in Japan.

According to UOM President Tsuyomu Ikenoue, the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture have been integrated into the bachelor’s program, and medicine and veterinary medicine have also been integrated as a bachelor’s program. Both the above two academic integrations marked a breakthrough in Japan.
