To celebrate the centennial anniversary of National Chiayi University and Double Ten National Day, a flash mob event took place at Taiwan High Speed Rail Zuoying Station on Oct. 2nd. The event was organized and performed by teachers and students from the String Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir and Pop Music Band of the Music Department, College of Humanities and Arts, NCYU. They delivered unique music pieces with great professional flair. The flash mob performance was filled with so much fun and entertainment that distinguished it enormously with the elegant and artistic style they usually demonstrate at an auditorium or concert hall. They hoped to share the happiness of NCYU’s centennial anniversary with passengers in southern Taiwan.

The event unveiled with “String Dance” played by the String Orchestra, followed by classic Jazz songs performed by the Jazz Band. Mr. Nick whizzed onto the stage, leading the students to carry through a repertoire of centennial songs created by the Music Department students: “NCYU Centennial Anniversary Celebration,” “Spectacular Centennial,” and “Centennial Harvest.” Their spectacular performances drew the attention of the passengers passing by who could not help but stop and feast their ears on this marvelous, surprising concert. They basked in the happiness of NCYU’s centennial anniversary shared by all the teachers and students of NCYU. With the music playing in the background, the specially designed activity “treasure hunt” took place where participants were required to complete assigned tasks to win the limited edition of the NCYU centennial anniversary souvenir. The interesting interactive game brought the flash mob event to a climax. During the flash mob event, the students of the Music Department received acknowledgement and applause from the audience with their remarkable performances. A 70-plus alumnus who graduated from the then Department of Food Industry, National Chiayi Institute of Agriculture, expressed his heartfelt pleasure for being able to see the flash mob event by NCYU in Kaohsiung.

According to NCYU President Chyung Ay, the university has been laying its foundation in the Chianan Plain since its establishment in 1919. Since then, the graduates of NCYU have been contributing their part to the society and country by cultivating professionals at home and abroad. One and all are welcome to join the anniversary celebration ceremony and concert scheduled on Oct. 26th, as part of a series of exciting celebrations for the NCYU centennial anniversary. The flash mob event held by the teachers and students at Taiwan High Speed Rail Zuoying Station aimed to share the happiness of NCYU’s centennial anniversary with passengers in southern Taiwan. The event drew to a joyous, celebratory close with President Ay, together with the teachers, staff members and students, singing the “Happy Birthday” in a convivial atmosphere.

A rap rendition of NCYU centennial song “Centennial Harvest” was delivered. During the interactive game “treasure hunt,” a sign reading “WANTED” with a photo of NCYU President Chyung Ay was hoisted for the participants to search for the president. The flash mob event attracted the attention of the passengers who thus stopped and listened to the performances.
