A student group of four from National Chiayi University, including Zhang Kai-Yu and Liu Yu-Kai from the Applied Foreign Language Group, Department of Foreign Languages, Lin Wei-Hong from the Department of Landscape Architecture, and Mao Yuan-Ting from the English Teaching Group, Department of Foreign Languages, participated in “2020 Business Simulation Game.” Standing out through the first round to the final where final proposals should be submitted, they won the exceptional award in the Game, jointly organized by the Chiayi City Government, Industrial Department and Investment Promotion Committee, Chiayi, and Plus One Innovation. It was the culimination of their achievements in interdisciplinary cooperation and multiple learning.

The 2020 Business Simulation Game marked the first contest the allowed the contending students to learn a variety of key concepts about business proposals through acquiring a wide spectrum of business management skills in the form of a simulated proposal competition. Companies including Chiayi Nice Prince Hotel, Holiday Inn Express Chiayi and Lan Kwai Fong Garden Hotel were invited to set questions. To submit business proposals, the contending students needed to put marketing and data analysis into practice. In presenting innovative business proposals, they would develop potential business models. The outstanding contenders would be granted opportunities to work with outstanding companies to realize commercial opportunities.

Zhang Kai-Yu, a student of the Department of Foreign Languages, mentioned that, despite majoring in foreign languages, he harbors an interest in management courses. Since second year, he has been joining interdisciplinary management courses on the Sinmin campus of NCYU. He participated in the competition with a view to evaluating his own learning results. Also a student of the Department of Foreign Languages, Mao Yuan-Ting expressed her gratitude to Prof. Fang-Chi Chang, Prof. Shu-I Chang, Assistant Prof. Hsu Ching Chung and Assistant Prof. Bo-Yuan Huang, all from the Department of Foreign Languages. Without their taking the time in their busy schedule to offer guidance on oral expression and briefing skills, she said they would not have been able to attain the award.

According to NCYU President Chyung Ay, a total of over 30 teams with different professional backgrounds from National Chiayi University, National Chung Cheng University, Nanhua University and WuFeng University, competing for the three exceptional awards in the final round. It was a hard-earned success indeed for them to be singled out at last. Above all, it was a valuable experience for the students to translate theoretical frameworks into commercial practice. President Ay encouraged all the students, by putting learning into practice, to bravely participate in a micellany of contests during their college years, which would help lay the foundation for future employment or starting up their own business.

Associate Prof. Jan-Jeng Huang, Director of the Office for Academia-Industry Collaboration and Continuing Education, NCYU, mentioned that the Office is dedicated to assisting the students in developing creative ideas and fulfilling themselves. By integrating the Higher Education Enhancement Project and USR Hub, they hoped to provide wide-ranging necessary resources to the students, and thus fulfill the social responsibility as a university.

Chen Kuan-Hsing (first from right), Commissioner of the Economic Affairs Department, Chiayi City Government, presented awards to the award-winning students from NCYU.
