To build consensus among the supervisors, National Chiayi University President Chyung Ay invited approximately 67 supervisors and administrative staff to join a consensus camp at Yuh Tong Hotel on August 20th. The event was held to help them create a shared vision, overturn traditional thinking, develop new strategies, take on new responsibilities, solve the current dilemma and create a better future. It was expected to effectively help promote the mid- and long-term development plans of NCYU, and improve the overall administrative efficiency.

President Chyung Ay indicated that serving as an administrative head is a way to realize your ideals. Only through concerted efforts and close coordination can they grasp the opportunity to realize their ideals. The university is a big family and organization. As an organization, it is important to build a common development vision, which requires continuous dialogue and communication among all its members for strategic goals to be established. Thus, it is also pivotal to communicate and deliver information effectively and accurately to avoid misleading, incomplete information or other detrimental results. It is necessary to implement cost analysis and proper planning in a univeristy, despite being a non-profit organization, to ensure efficient and effective expenditure. It is, therefore, critical for supervisors at all levels to build consensus and brainstorm ways to enhance the research atmosphere among faculty members, set up a distinguished research team, reduce the education-job mismatch, refine and review the curriculum, reduce the proportion of students withdrawing from school, ensure a sound financial operation, facilitate operation and performance control in different units, etc. The supervisors at all levels need to propose ways for substantial improvement so that the university can continue to grow and improve.

In the morning session of the consensus camp, Chair Professor Tsan-Der Chou, Former President of Hsing Wu University, was specially invited to talk on “University Development and Affairs Management.” He shared insights from his management experience with the supervisors and administrative staff of NCYU from both theoretical and practical aspects. In the afternoon, two topics, including “Information Communication and Organizational Culture” and “How to Ensure Rational and Efficient Operation of the University,” were delivered to delve further into Prof. Chou’s talk. By exploring the two issues facing NCYU, they hoped that the supervisors at all levels of the university could become an accountable leader, and establish an accountable management system for the upcoming new semester (the academic year 2020-2021). By learning to motivate themselves, they will in turn enhance the personality traits and mental models of all members in the organization, who would complete tasks through teamwork.

At the forum, President Ay encouraged all the supervisors and administrative staff that serving as an administrator is like a spiritual pilgrimage, where you should never be afraid of failure when unexpected things happen. It is also significant to learn from others’ experience of successful management, and be willing to listen and communicate. He hoped that today’s consensus camp could create a new momentum that inspires everyone, so that they would work together for a win-win situation.

The attending supervisors listened attentively to the talks. NCYU President Chyung Ay delivered his remarks. Chair Professor Tsan-Der Chou, Former President of Hsing Wu University, shared insights based on his management experience.
