NCYU President Chyung Ay and the guests of honor wished happy birthday to the 101-year-old NCYU. NCYU 101-Year Anniversary: “Innovative Age: Prospective Leadership”
The anniversary ceremony of National Chiayi University was organized on the Lantan campus on Nov. 21st. The ceremony unveiled with the exciting performance by the Jazz Band of the Music Department, NCYU. The grand event was attended by guests of honor including incumbent and former presidents of NCYU, Chiayi City Deputy Mayor Chen Shu-hui, Lin Guo-Cun, Chairman of the R.O.C. National Chiayi University Distinguished Alumni Association, Zhang Yong-Lin, President of the NCYU Taiwan Alumni Association, and alumni from around Taiwan. Their participation filled the occasion with warmth and grandeur.

In his remarks, President Chyung Ay stated that today was the 101-year anniversary of NCYU and 20-year anniversary of the merger of National Chiayi Teachers College and National Chiayi Institute of Technology. He thanked the incumbent and former presidents for their prospective planning and leadership, the colleagues and students for their continued efforts, the alumni at home and abroad for their generous support, and leaders in all walks of life for their guidance and assistance. Without them, NCYU would not have been able to serve as a successful model for integration into a higher education university in Taiwan.

Deputy Mayor Chen Shu-hui indicated that the academic resources of NCYU have been key to various construction projects promoted by the Chiayi City Government. Last year, the city government signed a cooperation MOU with NCYU in the hope that the university would work with the city government towards the educational visions and objectives – humanities as top priority, technology as the tool, and pursuit of refined innovation and international perspective. The ultimate goal is for NCYU to continue its mission to facilitate academic research and development in the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region.

In his address, Former President Yang Kuo-Shih thanked the incumbent and former presidents, teachers and alumni for their commitment, which makes it possible for NCYU to undergo successful integration. As the world tackles the Covid-19 crisis, Taiwan has been recognized worldwide for its successful epidemic prevention measures in various fields. He was grateful that the anniversary ceremony of the university could take place as scheduled. The theme of the anniversary ceremony this year, “Innovative Age: Prospective Leadership,” implied a highly valuable and prospective goal that would bring about a future filled with vitality and hope for the university.

During the anniversary ceremony, the president installation ceremony of the R.O.C. National Chiayi University Distinguished Alumni Association also took place. Honorary Dr. Luo Qing-Yuan will assume the post as the third president of the Distinguished Alumni Association. In addition, President Chyung Ay presented “Distinguished Alumni Awards 2020,” “Alumni Meritorious Service and Commitment Awards 2020” and “Education Donation Awards 2020 of the Ministry of Education” to the recipients in recognition of the alumni’s dedication to NCYU. President Ay expressed gratitude to the alumni’s heartfelt support, assistance to the campus’ disease prevention, and financial support to the potential sports players. To commemorate Former President Dr. Yu Chuan-Tao for his devotion to the university, and guidance and instruction of the students, the National Alumni Association had been raising funds for “President Yu Chuan-Tao Memorial Scholarship” to encourage hardworking students. All these are testament to the alumni’s wholehearted dedication to their alma mater.

At the end of the ceremony, President Chyung Ay lit up the congratulatory crystal ball with the honored guests, as the anniversary cake animation was shown on the LED display. The Happy Birthday song sung by the audience accompanied by violin brought the 101-year anniversary ceremony to a climax.
