NCYU President Chyung Ay, Dean of Academic Affairs Gu Guo-Long, and Dean of Student Affairs Lin Yun-Wei were invited for a lunch date by the “Student Think Tank,” the Office of Student Affairs on Jan. 22nd. The lunch took place at the 2nd Conference Room, located on the second floor of the Student Activity Center, Lantan campus. The Student Think Tank consists of active and enthusiastic students, who hope to provide suggestions on the future development of the university from the students’ perspective. They plan to talk with top supervisors of the university in the near future, and post the recent student activities, campus life, and academic research results on Instagram, one of the most popular social media used by students nowadays. (The official Instagram of National Chiayi University: https://www. instagram. com/ncyu. stude/)

President Chyung Ay highly values the students’ participation in extracurricular activities. During the lunch, he shared with them his experience of serving as secretary-general of the Chiayi Club during his college life. He also encouraged the students to embrace unknown challenges in the future. Representatives from various student clubs thanked President Ay during the lunch. They expressed their gratitude to the president for his support to the clubs over the past year (2020), which included agreeing to the funding of the student club activities and exhibitions. The funding included: the Mathematics Knowledge Research Society’s smart remote control robot, the Plant Research Club’s essential oil purifier, the Cycling Club’s portable tool cart set, the Winery Club’s distillation machine, the Zhuxuan Guzheng Club’s 21-String Guzheng, the Mountaineering Club’s MSR Guardian Water Purifier made in USA. (The Guardian water purifier uses medical-grade hollow fiber technology that not only blocks particles, but also effectively removes microorganisms, bacteria and viruses in the water.) The students mentioned that the newly purchased equipment allows them to try and learn more in club activities, thus being more able to give back to the society, and contribute to the community.

In addition to the lunch, President Ay headed to the Coffee Research Club with his wife to taste the drip coffee made by the students. President Ay acknowledged the students’ participation and learning in various club activities, which will enhance their future workplace competitiveness. It is an enviable sight to see how President Ay wore an apron and made drip coffee for his wife to taste in the midst of the coffee aroma.
