The Undergraduate Program for the Department of Early Childhood Education

Mission

The major areas of emphasis in this department are child development, child learning, and child-care education. Students are exposed to an interdisciplinary program covering psychology, education, health and welfare that cultivates students' professional ability in the field of child care or early childhood education, and prepares students for research, administration, and social service work related to early childhood education.

Goals

Our department aims to educate excellent teachers and child development researchers in the field of early childhood education. The targets are as follows:

1. To hold the knowledge and capacities of early childhood education and kindergarten teaching abilities.
2. To cultivate the administration abilities of early childhood education.
3. To promote the interests and capacities of early childhood education research.
4. To spread the development areas of early childhood education with multiple dimensions.

Curriculum

This is an interdisciplinary program designed for individuals with a professional interest in the care and education of young children. It includes basic coursework in early childhood education, child development and counseling, principles and theories, administration, child play and arts, and other related subjects. This program places equal emphasis on both theory and practice, with an aim to help students develop areas of specialization that can be applied to their future careers in early childhood education.

Future development

The department will continue to cultivate research and professional capacity in early childhood education. Theory and practice will be balanced with an aim to develop students' professional and leadership skills; ongoing efforts will be made to enhance the level of teaching, research, and social services provided by the department.
