| NCYU Wins Award as Internationally Certified Energy Management Benchmark School with Outstanding Energy Savings |
National Chiayi University succeeded in implementing the government’s energy-saving policy. On the behalf of NCYU, Vice President Huang Guang-liang attended “Endless Energy: Joint Presentation of Energy Conservation in the Service Industry 2020,” organized by the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, on Dec. 1st. Chun-Li Lee, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, presented the internationally recognized certificate to NCYU for “establishing the ISO/CNS 50001 energy management system.”
In line with international standards of the ISO/CNS 50001 energy management system, NCYU has been implementing energy management by establishing the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) operation mode. An energy management team was formed to offer education and training on the knowledge and abilities in the related fields, and is fully committed to improving the system and technology. With support from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, the team has carried out comprehensive consideration of energy use and efficiency through regulations, systems, technology, and management. By maximizing energy conservation and optimizing energy efficiency, they have strived to make NCYU an internationally certified energy management benchmark school.
In 2019, NCYU received funding of around NT$2.7 million according to the “Living and Commercial Environment Electricity Saving Plan” of the Environmental Protection Bureau, Chiayi City Government. As far as the four NCYU campuses were concerned, compared with the electricity consumption from January to November of last year (2019), a total of 480,920 kilowatt-hours of electricity were saved, carbon emissions were reduced by 244.788 tons, and electricity expenses were reduced by about NT$1,500,047 in the same period this year. They have been promoting the implementation of the ISO/CNS 50001 energy management system since 2020. By adopting the energy management system on the Lantan and Sinmin campuses, they have been actively replacing outdated lamps and air conditioners to facilitate energy savings and energy efficiency. They hope to achieve the goal of saving electricity by 10% next year (2021).
Vice President Huang Guang-liang indicated that the university will continue to strengthen academic research and development, and work towards energy conservation. The ISO 50001 energy management system was established to ensure the sustainable development of the university through energy conservation. Their ultimate goal is to fulfill the university’s responsibility to protect the earth’s environment.
