The Passing Rates of NCYU Teacher Education Students in National Teacher Qualification Examinations Hit Record High

The teacher qualification examinations for schools from kindergartens to junior high schools across the country in 2021 have been postponed due to the the COVID-19 pandemic, and the examination results were announced earlier this week. The recently graduated teacher education students of National Chiayi University set an outstanding record by having a passing rate as high as 90.54%, which is much higher than the national average passing rate of 67.37%. The passing rates of students from the Teacher Education Center and other teacher training departments exceeded the average passing rates in Taiwan. Noteworthy is that the students at the Department of Special Education showed an exceptional passing rate of 100%. The teacher education students of the Department of Guidance and Counseling, Department of Education, and Teacher Education Center’s teacher training programs for elementary schools demonstrated remarkable passing rates of more than 90%.

With a special focus on cultivating students’ professional teaching ability, the NCYU Teacher Education Center is dedicated to training teachers in four categories: kindergartens, national elementary schools, junior high schools and special education. To place emphasis on all necessary aspects, the Teacher Education Center and teacher training departments not only offer professional courses, but organize relevant empowerment workshops on a regular basis. They have organized, for example, keynote lectures, teacher qualification remedial classes, phenomenon-based experimental workshops, children’s inspirational science lectures, blackboard writing workshops, etc. Theoretical studies and hands-on practice are employed to strengthen the professional abilities of teacher education students, and lay the foundation for their professional competencies, knowledge and practical literacy in education.

Ruyu Hung, Director of the Teacher Education Center, said that NCYU is committed to training excellent teachers, and improving curriculum planning and internship guidance with the times and policies. In response to changes in the question types of the teacher qualification examinations and challenges of the new curriculum standards under way since 2021, they will continue to strengthen the literacy-oriented curriculum and practical training to enhance students’ literacy-oriented knowledge and skills. The goal is to increase the competitiveness of teachers in screening tests across various counties and cities in the future, and train outstanding teachers for the new era.

Over the years, the teacher education students of NCYU have shown a passing rate over 90%, which exceeds the national average passing rate. In addition to training teachers for elementary and junior high schools, they have been planning to provide early childhood education training in the days to come since last year. The general regulations for application and admission of teacher training programs in different categories are announced in May each year, with the examinations taking place in July. Any NCYU student aspiring to be a teacher is welcome to register in the application and admission and join the league of teacher education students, who will work together to create education of the new generation.
