NCYU Sinmin Campus Athletic Field Reopens with Renovation Cost of Around NT$10 Million

The athletic field on the Sinmin Campus, National Chiayi University, which has been much anticipated by citizens of Chiayi City, is officially reopened. This marks the first time the athletic field on the campus was renovated since its unveiling 14 years ago. Thanks to Legislator Wang Mei-Hui, an alumnus of NCYU who has been proactively seeking a subsidy of over NT$12.11 million since last December, complete with NT$11.03 million raised by the unversity, a total of NT$23.14 million was used to renovate the PU track, ceremonial stand, and part of the foundation of the athletic field on the Sinmin campus. The renovation project began on Jun. 30th, 2011 and was completed on Oct. 26th in the same year.

The four campuses of NCYU span across Chiayi County and City. Since serving as the 7th president of NCYU in 2018, President Chyung Ay has been seeking subsidies with unwavering support of Lee Chun-yi, Deputy Secretary-General to the President over the past four years. The objective is to provide high-quality teaching and training facilities for the NCYU teachers and students, as well as to meet the sports and recreational needs of residents of both the county and city. A total of NT$193.756 million was utilized to fund the renovation of the PU track, purchase of equipment, and furnishing of the sports facilities in the hope to bring prosperity to both the university and community.

Since 2018, NCYU has been renovating and purchasing various sports facilities, including swimming pools, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts and gymnasiums on the Lantan, Minghsiung and Sinmin campuses. The goal is to provide standard, suitable and convenient facilities for the faculty and students of the university, as well as the public. The most anticipated among the renovation projects are the PU tracks on the Lantan, Minghsiung and Sinmin campuses, whose renovation costs and utilization rates were the highest. All the facilities have been reopened for use after four years of effort.

NCYU President Chyung Ay indicated that university education should be holistic. It is critical to help the young develop physical fitness, in addition to professional skills and character. The total costs for renovation and equipment replacement of sports fields on the four campuses were partly paid by the university in a sum of NT$74,875,670, and subsidized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in a sum of NT$34.5 million. President Ay expressed gratitude to MOE and alumni from all walks of life for their continued support, and to all his colleagues for their efforts, without which the renovation of the sports facilities would not have been possible. While providing a more convenient sports and recreational space for the public, the facilities will become tangible and intangible assets for the faculty and students of NCYU.
