NCYU and Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Sign MOU to Support Establishment of a Medical School to Nurture Biomedical Talents

National Chiayi University and Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital signed a MOU today on August 10th at NCYU. Led by Superintendent Jen-Tsung Yang, representatives from Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital attended the ceremony, including CEO Chih-Hung Lin, Vice Superintendent Cheng-Ting Hsiao, Management Department Director Chen Ching-Yau and Teaching Department Chief Hsu Chi-Ming. The ceremony was also attended by NCYU President Han Chien Lin, Vice President Chen Rui-Chiang, Vice President Chun-Hsien Chang, College of Life Sciences Dean Hong-Thih Lai, Chief Secretary Yun-Wei Lin, Hsin-I Chang, Chairperson of the Department of Biochemical Science and Technology, and other supervisors. The MOU aims to initiate collaborations between both parties in terms of co-teaching, project cooperation, specialty medical treatment, research equipment support, and medical education for the biomedical industry in the future.

NCYU President Han Chien Lin expressed his pleasure to sign the MOU with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and confidence in the idea of establishing the eighth college of NCYU, the College of Medicine, in the days to come. The MOU not only allows both parties to officially engage in talent exchange, academic-industrial cooperation, education promotion and employment counseling, among others, but gives a boost to the establishment of the College of Medicine at NCYU. The NCYU College of Medicine will work towards the goal of holistic health medicine. The Teachers College can contribute to psychotherapy and health promotion in preventive medicine. The College of Humanities and Arts will strive to help relieve the stress of modern people due to hectic work schedules with music. The College of Management will be dedicated to medical management using information technology. The College of Agriculture will pool efforts to facilitate food safety, food and agriculture, and agricultural biotechnology, which play pivotal roles in our lives. The College of Science and Engineering will contribute to safe healthcare with information technology and AI, or artificial intelligence. The College of Life Sciences will conduct technological research and development with a focus on precision healthcare, and work with the Chiayi County Science Park in terms of precision healthcare and biomedicine. The College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Plant Medicine will devote themselves to human well-being and health. It is hoped that through close collaboration between NCYU and Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, their outstanding research capabilities will be brought into play. The ultimate goal is to enhance standards and quality of medical care for local residents in the Changhua-Yunlin-Chiayi-Nantou region, thus contributing to the overall health and well-being in the country.

According to Dr. Jen-Tsung Yang, Superintendent of Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, he hoped to create synergy through future cooperation. Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital enjoys strong medical service capacity and has received many awards for its high quality of medical care in recent years. While there are medical schools in northern and central Taiwan, southern Kaohsiung, as well as in eastern Taiwan (Tzu Chi University), there is currently no medical school in the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region. They hoped to create a happy city in the future by collaborating in medicine and academic research, and nurturing local biomedical professionals in Chiayi.
