The Agronomy Volunteer Team, which has been providing care for the underprivileged and service to the elderly in the community, obtained an exceptional award in the category of “service-oriented clubs” at the national student club evaluation in 2022. NCYU Agronomy Volunteer Team Wins Exceptional Award at National Evaluation and Demonstration of College Student Clubs 2022
The National Evaluation and Demonstration of College Student Clubs 2022 was held at National Central University on March 31st. This year, National Chiayi University stood out among 273 remarkable students clubs from 122 universities and colleges around Taiwan this year, with four clubs receiving awards. The Agronomy Volunteer Team won an exceptional award in the category of “service-oriented clubs”; the Cloud Mountaineering Club, an excellence award in the “sports club” category; the Plant Research Club, an honorable mention in the group of “academic and art clubs”; and the Coffee Research Club, “Best Club Activity of the Year Award.” It is praiseworthy that the students won the awards for their dedication to managing club activities and serving the society.

The Agronomy Volunteer Team has long been recognized for their care for the underprivileged and service to the elderly in the community. The team, after winning the “Outstanding Youth Award” last year, swept the national competition with flying colors again this year, which further attested to the club’s marvelous management quality and service effectiveness. When accepting the award on behalf of the Agronomy Volunteer Team, club leader Han Cheng-Xi said that the award was the culmination of the cadre’s efforts and past experiences of the seniors, and was a wonderful chapter in college life for all the members. It was an honor to stand on the stage to share the excellent practices of the Agronomy Volunteer Team with other universities, and promote the professional volunteer service.

It marked the first time for the Cloud Mountaineering Club and Coffee Research Club to participate in the national competition where they achieved outstanding results, which served as a great encouragement to the members. The student clubs have been offering integrated social services in line with NCYU’s objective to fulfill the social responsibility as a university, as part of the Higher Education SPROUT Project. They are encouraged to put their expertise into practice and provide diversified social services. The Cloud Mountaineering Club, for instance, has been carrying out service activities in educational priority areas. By designing a plethora of games, they promote ecological conservation and environmental education through “learning by doing” at remote elementary schools during winter and summer vacations. With a focus on local networking, the Coffee Research Club cares for the elderly at local long-term care institutions. It not only allows the club members to accumulate more diverse service experiences, but helps enhance the well-being of the senior citizens.

NCYU President Han Chien Lin highly acknowledged the prominent achievements of the school’s clubs at the national student club evaluation this year, and expressed his gratitude to the students for their efforts and commitment. He also encouraged current students to get involved in club activities during their youthful years in college. Participation in club activities helps train their organizational, communicating, coordinating and problem-solving skills, which are key to success in their future careers.
The Cloud Mountaineering Club, which recently hold an environmental education winter camp at Xiang-lin Elementary School to promote ecological conservation and environmental education, won an excellence award in the “sports club” category at the national student club evaluation in 2022. The Coffee Research Club was winner of the “Best Club Activity of the Year Award” at the national student club evaluation in 2022.
