Lucy Chuang, a native of Tainan, is a graduate of Yung-Fu Elementary school, enrolled in the special music program. A first prize winner in the 1993 Taiwan National Music Competition (clarinet junior division) at age 13, she then moved to Toronto, Canada with her family.

    A recipient of the Oscar Morawetz Foundation Scholarship (Canada), The USC Earl Brent Scholarship and the Music Dean’s Scholarship, Miss Chuang completed and attained both her Bachelor and Master’s degree in clarinet performance at University of Southern California. Her most influential teachers are: Yu-Ching Wang, Joaquin Valdepenas (principal clarinet, Toronto Symphony Orchestra), Yehuda Gilad, and Michele Zukovsky (principal clarinet, Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra). In addition, she has also been coached by many prominent clarinet figures, including Peter Schmidl, Wenzel Fuchs, Paul Meyer, Richardo Morales, Mitchell Lurie, James Campbell, Richard Stolzman, Mark Nuccio, Michael Collins, and more.
 
    Miss Chuang made her first concerto (solo) debut with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra at age 14. After that, her concerto engagements have led her to perform with various groups including, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, Colburn Zipper Symphony Orchestra, Yinqi Symphony Orchestra, University of Southern California Symphony
Orchestra, and the North Toronto Collegiate Institute Symphony Orchestra. In 1996, she was selected as the only representative of the Canadian Broadcasting Company to participate at the Czech International Competition “Concertino Praha”. Winning “Honorary Mention”, Miss Chuang was invited to perform solo recitals in Czech and Germany.

    Other worth-mentioning awards are: Grand prize at Kiwanis Music Festival (first prize in clarinet and all instrumental categories), 2nd Prize in the Canadian National Competition, First Prize in the University of Southern California Concerto Competition, the Sigma Alpha Iota Pasadena Chapter Award, and 2003 Young Artist Award by the Young Artist International, Inc.

    Miss Chuang has a great passion for chamber music. She has been invited to perform with pianist Bruno Canino at the Laguna Chamber Music Festival; Also a live radio broadcast (KMZT105.1) concert at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts with the Il Palpiti.; The Young Artist International Laureates Festival in Taos, New Mexico. Further more, she has performed chamber music concerts in Japan with principal players from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Upon invitation, Miss Chuang joined the Taipei Clarinet Ensemble, aiming to combine performing, teaching, researching and music outreach for Taiwan community.

    As a recitalist, she has given a recital at the Glenn Gould Hall in Toronto, live broadcasted by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. As a recipient of 2007 Young Star Series Award, Miss Chuang was invited to give a recital in the National Recital Hall of Taiwan by the National Concert and Theatre Hall. She also gave a recital in Beverly Hills as an artist invited by Sunday at Two series.

   Miss Chuang has been invited to the Pacific Music Festival in Japan three times, and spent four summers at the Aspen Music Festival. She has performed with and under many distinguished artists, including The Three Tenors(Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras), Renee Fleming, Yoyo Ma, Joshua Bell, Martha Argerich, James Conlon, Charles Dutoit, Alan Gilbert, Bernard Haitink, Ricardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yuri Temirkanov, Edo de Waart, David Zinman...to name a few.

   Lucy Chuang is currently the principal clarinet in the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, and on faculty at the National Chai Yi University, Tung Hai University and the Taipei European School.
