Lee Ta-Jen graduated from the Soo-Chow University, Taipei and continued his study under Professor Gerald Nienstedt and Professor Jewgenij Nesterenko in Konservatorium der Stadt Wien in Vienna. During his stint there, he sang in the Wiener Kammeroper and the Wiener Volksoper, and many churches such as the Stephansdom, Karlskirche, Piaristenkirche and the Kapuzinerkirche.

 

Between 1994 and 2000, Lee was regularly invited to sing at the Neulengbach City Hall and in main churches during Christmas and other major festivals. In 1996, he sang in the Folksong Concert during the Friendship Anniversary of Austria and China. In 1997, Lee gave this modern opera the first performance, Johannes Stein oder der Roch des Kaisers, written by the modern composer Erich Urbanner, in Vienna, and later in Croatia’s Capture Zagreb. In 1999, he sang Padre Guardiano in Verdi’s La forza del destino, under Italian conductor Alessandro Pagliazzi. In spring 2000, Lee played Colas in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne in Kinderoper Piccolino Wien in Vienna.

 

Upon Lee’s return to Taiwan, he performed in Sullivan’s operetta Mikado in Kao-Shung. He was assistant director of Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne, a production by the Hsin-Min High School, Taichung and presented “Rafael” and “Adam” in Haydn’s Creation and the Bass in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra at the National Concert Hall and Chong-San Hall in Taipei.

 

In Autumn 2002, Lee sang Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore, and in the next year, again Haydn’s Creation in Malaysia and Indonesia.

 

Lee is currently lecturing at the National Chiayi University, Changhua Arts Senior High School, Taichung Hsin-Min High School, and Douliou Cheng-Hsin High School, in Taiwan.
