The Taiwan Education Center Philippines and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) held “2021 Taiwan-Philippines University Presidents’ Virtual Forum” on August 24th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On behalf of National Chiayi University, Vice President Yang Der-Ching joined the event to further understand the current status and needs of higher education in the Philippines, and recruit international students to study in Taiwan.

On behalf of National Chiayi University, Vice President Yang Der-Ching joined the event to further understand the current status and needs of higher education in the Philippines, and recruit international students to study in Taiwan. The agenda focused on the development and transformation of global education under the Covid-19 pandemic, and the development and evolution of higher education in Taiwan and the Philippines in recent years. A total of 64 educational institutions in Taiwan participated in the forum, including NCYU, National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. It was attended by 70 vice presidents and other top supervisors who represented the public and private colleges and universities across Taiwan, as well as 119 representatives from 107 colleges and universities in the Philippines. The forum can be said to be the largest online conference in the world of higher education in Taiwan and Philippines in recent years, given the number of educational institutions and representatives participating in the grand event. The event concluded successfully with a closing ceremony, chaired by Dr. Jesus Rodrigo F. Torres, Vice Chairman of PASUC, and Lee Yen-Yi, Director General of the International and Cross Strait Education, Ministry of Education, among others.

In recent years, NCYU has been devoted to building cooperative relations with academic communities in such areas as the Philippines. The international academic delegations from University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Los Banos, and the Philippines Commission on Higher Education have visited NCYU. Visits were also paid by delegations from the Philippine Association of Research Managers, Inc. (PHILARM), and University of the East. Vice President of Benguet State University in the Philippines also paid a visit to NCYU. At present, NCYU has signed memoranda of academic cooperation with six sister schools including the University of the Philippines Visayas and Isabela State University. Effective exchanges have been carried out through project cooperation. Also noteworthy is that the Department of Foreign Languages organized the “English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics, and Literary Publishing Academic Workshop Project” jointly with Isabela State University, one of the sister schools of NCYU, in 2020. The Division of International Student Affairs participated in such events as the Virtual 2020 Taiwan Higher Education Fair in the Philippines. It not only helped foster bilateral academic exchange, but attract more outstanding Filipino students to study at NCYU.
Speech by Mon-Chi Lio, Political Deputy Minister of MOE PASUC Chairman Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo delivered his remarks.
