The appointment ceremony of top supervisors of National Chiayi University for the first semester in the academic year 2021-2022 took place at the Zuei-Suei Hall on the Lantan campus on the morning of July 27th. A total of one top administrative supervisor and 10 academic heads took up the new post. Gratitude was expressed to the 11 outgoing supervisors for their commitment to the university. President Chyung Ay presented certificates of appreciation to them on behalf of the university in recognition of their dedication to NCYU. He also presented certificates of appointment to the newly appointed (and reappointed) top supervisors of different units.

Chen-Chang Peng is the newly appointed administrative supervisor for the first semester in the academic year 2021-2022 as Director of the Alumni Center. The newly appointed heads of the academic units include Ming-Chung Chen, Dean of the Teachers College; Shen Rong-Show, Dean of the College of Agriculture; Ya-Ping Wu, Chairwoman of the Department of Special Education; Hsuan Chung-Hui, Chairwoman of the Department of Early Childhood Education; Zhang Hong-Yi, Chairman of the Department of Management Information Systems; Su Wen-Ching, Chairman of the Department of Wood Materials and Design; Wen-Der Wang, Chairman of the Department of BioAgricultural Science; Wen-Shi Tsai, Chairman of the Department of Plant Medicine; Jen-Yen Lin, Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics; and Hsu Cheng-Kuang, Chairman of the Department of Food Science.

President Ay expressed his gratefulness to the supervisors for their assistance in various pandemic prevention measures on campus during the severe pandemic. He hoped that the new supervisors may cope with new challenges in the future with a spirit of continuous learning, so that they can not only realize personal growth but make NCYU an even better place. All the administrative heads, who are also faculty of the univeristy, have significant responsibilities and missions. When faced with problems in the days to come, they ought to open discussions on how to solve the problem, rather than first focusing on who is “right” or “wrong.” If unsolvable problems arise, they may join discussions and take actions accordingly.

In the era of an ever-changing society, they are no longer able to deal with unprecedented problems with the concepts and ways of thinking based on past experiences. They should be able to follow up on the problem and consider its impact on the organization, keep up with the times, and see the trend and development of various industries. NCYU is dedicated to its students, and life education is part of the tertiary education. Survival is the first thing that the students fight for after graduation. An educational institution should prepare them for the real world, where they ought to be able to solve problems, and tackle the problems with reason and calmness, rather than with self-righteous arrogance. A university is also expected to equip students with social etiquette and ability to get along with people.

Towards the end of the ceremony, President Ay invited the outgoing supervisors to make their remarks. Han Chien Lin, who recently left the post as Dean of the College of Agriculture, said that he was grateful to the teachers for their support of the College of Agriculture in the past three years. He believed that, under the leadership of the new Dean, Shen Rong-Show, and efforts of each member of the faculty, the College will make even more progress in the future. Lee Hung-Wen, the outgoing Dean of the College of Management, mentioned that he was honored to have the opportunity to serve the post for 6 years. He would like to thank the faculty for their support of the College, and hoped that it would continue to make breakthroughs under the leadership of the new Dean. According to Huaang-Youh Hurng, the former Director of the Alumni Center, social resources have been key to the development of the university since the establishment of school funds. A great number of alumni are influential figures in the society. There are around 140,000 alumni of NCYU all over the world, who can support the university in diverse aspects, and grow with the university. He wished that all units could fully mobilize alumni resources so as to facilitate the development of school affairs.
