The first speech was given by NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan, who congratulated the 25 retired professors who are given emeritus status, and 22 alumni who won the Distinguished Alumni Award this year. He also complimented the faculty, staff members and students who were honored with awards today. He cited the story of the Kano baseball team, who in 1931 placed first at the championship in Taiwan, and later received Koshien quasi-award at the Japan High School Baseball Championship, which won it the title “the Unequaled Kano” from the Japan public. The spirit of Kano has been inherited by the NCYU baseball team. The story of the Kano baseball team, its legendary achievement at Koshien, and hardship of its training have been adapted into a film called KANO by renowned director Wei Desheng. The movie, due to release in February next year, is bound to bring back memories in many viewers.

President Chiou added that NCYU has in the past year witnessed continuing progress and improvement in the effectiveness of teaching and myriad hardware and software facilities. Thus, the university has achieved its educational mission of “helping your students succeed in their life and become masters in their trade,” as well as physical results of diversified development as a comprehensive university. In the future, NCYU will continue to push the boundaries on the basis of its advantages, and enhance research and execution capabilities in terms of collaboration among industries, government and academic research organization. With a focus on “heath,” “humanities” and “technology”, they will connect related industries with the concept of “know-how” in creating their own values, and facilitate development in local communities by innovative value-added research with the idea of “know-why,” so as to fulfill its social responsibility.

According to Xu Rui-Fen, the exhibition features a selected collection of nearly a hundred works, and more than half of the painted porcelains on display were unveiled for the first time in Taiwan. The resulting work possesses great exquisiteness reminiscent of Buddha's miracles.

To raise school funds, according to NCYU, President Chiou and several invited celebrities including Former Vice President Vincent Siew, Chang Po-Ya, chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Chi Chan-Nan, a well-known gynecologist and writer, Chung Chao-cheng, a well-known writer and teacher, Xiao Ji-Hui, a double-brush calligraphy master, Hsiao Tien-Chan, former Minister of Justice, signed autographs on the porcelains with a brush pen for donations and purchases at an auction.
