(Guidelines for General
Education Curriculum)
NOTE: This General
Education curriculum guide is intended for students who began attending NCYU in
the 2018-2019 academic year or later. Students who began attending NCYU before
Fall 2018 will follow the former regulations.
A Bachelor’s
degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours for the General Education
curriculum, with 10 credit hours for compulsory courses (basic literacy
curriculum) and 20 credit hours for selected courses (liberal education
curriculum).
Compulsory courses
(basic literacy curriculum), 10 credit hours:
(1) Chinese for 4 credit hours
(2) English for 4 credit hours
(3) Fundamentals of Programming for 2
credit hours
(4) Physical Education for 8 hours without
credit (Students must take at least 4 semesters of PE courses, 2 courses for
compulsory and 2 courses for
selections. For selections, the same type of PE
courses cannot be taken for credit repeatedly every semester.)
(5) Campus service-learning (within the
Freshman Year)
Selected courses (liberal
education curriculum), 20 credit hours:
a. Students are required to take at
least one course (2 credit hours) in at least three fields. There are six
fields of general education curriculums, including the field of civic literacy
and social care, the field of history, culture and art cultivation, the field
of life exploration and environmental care, the field of self-development,
communication and interaction, the field of physical science and applied life
science, the field of language application and communication practice. Students
may choose to take the remaining credits from any of the 6 fields.
b.
Credit cannot be given for courses with the same name more than once. Also, general
education courses that fall within a student's major course of study may not be
count as credit for the general education curriculum.
