For all freshmen of the Graduate Institute of Bio-Agriculture Sciences:

Welcome!

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for standing out from other examinees and look forward to your participation in our research team. We would like to invite you for the orientation at 12 o’clock, June 11th in the department auditorium, where the lunch and soft drink will be prepared for you. It would be appreciated if you could attend.

In the orientation, we will introduce our lecturers. There are ten lecturers in the department at present; one more lecturer is recruiting and is expected to join us in August. Biotechnology on animals, plants, and microorganism is contained in the field of research in the department. The department has competed for the subsidies of Advanced Biotechnology Educational Program from Ministry of Education for eight years that valuable devices are completely equipped, such as LC/MS/MS, Laser Scanning Confocal Microscop, Genetic Analyzer, DNA Synthesizers, BioChip Scanners, Molecular Dynamics Phosphoimager, ION Analyzer. With the opportunity in the orientation, we would like to introduce the present research situation in various laboratories for your reference of join in the research teams.

This year (2010), the department has further received Pilot Educational Programs in Translational Medicine and Agriculture from Ministry of Education with total 4.21 million subsidies of two programs in the fields of crop and flower industry and livestock and poultry Industry. Moreover, the total amount is up to 5.05 million with the campus fund. Total 16 courses (appendix), including eight courses in crop and flower industry and another eight courses in livestock and poultry Industry, are opening in succession (June 28th – August 27th). With the subsidies in the program, qualified teachers in academia and experienced teachers in the industries are invited to take part in the lecture courses and labs. In field trips to selected companies, you will be visiting sectors in animal biotechnology industry to understand the present situation of bio-industry. Furthermore, industry projects will provide you with earlier practical experiences of participating in industry operation.

Credits of the summer courses will be counted into the first semester of the academic year 2010. We expect that, with the summer courses, you will be familiar with the experimental operation of biotechnology ahead of time that can be convenient for further researches.
