Introduction

I. Origin:

The aim of Taiwanese Culture Department of National Chiayi University is to deeply explore Taiwanese culture and to integrate Taiwanese history, geography, language, art and music into Taiwanese culture researches.

II. Goal:

1. Research and Development:

The main purposes of our department are to integrate the resources from our department and to investigate some fields related to Taiwanese history, geography, language, art and music, especially in promoting the researches in Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region. Besides, our department is responsible for holding conferences and international symposium regularly in order to provide more opportunities for researchers to exchange their research experiences. We have also collected some resources and documents related to Taiwanese culture for study and teaching.

2. Continuing Education and Service:

The main focus of continuing education and service in our department are listed as following:

--to incorporate both school and other resources

--to promote project reports

--to give assistance in appraising historical sites and treasures in Taiwan

--to hold Taiwanese culture lecture and study regularly

--to compile and to publish local geography and history teaching materials
