History of Electrical Engineering at National Chiayi University
The Department of Electrical Engineering
(EE) at the National Chiayi University was founded in 2008,
where located in the heart of Chiayi, one of the fastest growing markets for
industrial development and an ethnically diverse and welcoming city. The
EE department has always been one of the top choices to high school
students. Each year the number of applicants seeking admission to the
Department exceeds by many times the number of available openings. The
competition for admission is extremely intense. Therefore, entrants with high
potential are widely known. The faculty is actively dedicated to teaching
and state-of-the-art research. Over ten research grants and SCI papers are
awarded by governments and are published in journals by faculty each year,
respectively, which make the Department to be one of the most competitive departments
at National Chiayi University. Moreover, the Graduate
Institute of Electrical Engineering was established in 2013 fall with a
Master's degree program. In the near future, gifted applicants will see
how our world-class faculty and staffs, and educational and research programs
enable the EE department to be one of extraordinary institutes in the world.
Mission Statement
The
mission of the Department of Electrical Engineering on the undergraduate
program is to impart a basic understanding of electrical engineering built on a
foundation of physical science, mathematics, computing, and technology.
Undergraduate students in the department take a common core of three subjects
that serves as their introduction to electrical engineering, computer science
and control system. Students can systematically build up wide groundwork.
Laboratory subjects, independent projects and research opportunities provide
engagement with principles and techniques of analysis, design, and
experimentation in a variety of fields. The department also offers a range of
programs that enable students to obtain experience in industrial settings,
ranging from collaborative industrial projects done on campus to long-term
experiences at partner companies. Graduate study in the department moves students
towards dominion of areas of individual interest, through course work and
significant research, often defined in interdisciplinary areas that take
advantage of the enormous range of faculty expertise in the department.

The Electrical Engineering department offers a Graduate
Program with Master's of Science and Undergraduate programs.
Undergraduate Program
EE
is the largest undergraduate program at National Chiayi University. Our flexible
curriculum gives students a holistic view of the field, and an understanding of
how to solve problems, from software, control, communication to bioengineering.
Bachelor of Science in EE program provides a solid foundation in the
fundamentals of engineering and science and a variety of electives to tailor
studies to a specific technical interest. The program is offered
as a full-time program, and consists of 128 units, including 30 units for foundation subjects, 60 units for advanced required subjects
and 38 units for advanced elective subjects. The average
length of time it takes students to complete the full-time program is 3 to 4
years. Each student, with the help of a faculty advisor, prepares an individual
project in the junior year and submits it to the Graduate Degree Progress Committee
for approval if they would like to lucubrate to the Graduate program. There is
no thesis requirement for the Bachelor of Science degree, while the project
proposal is needed in the senior year.
Aim and Feature
Electrical
engineering department of NCYU was established in August of 2008. The aim of
the teaching purpose is to discover the student's talent, scientific and
engineering problem finding, and solving. The department also gives the
students an environment to balance their work and emotion so that the student
could treat his/her life, career, and society in positive thinking. In
addition, the outstanding teachers could deliver valuable experiences to the
students and the department hopes the student could achieve his/her outstanding
award in the world.
Course
In
order to match the strategy of national construction and industrial
development, NCYU EE provides advanced electrical engineering training to
students. This department not only emphasizes the theoretical analysis ability,
but also focuses on the personal skill in reality problems. Basic electrical
engineering theories will be arranged into compulsory subjects. Course-system
of the department is divided into system-group part and electronics-group part.
For bachelor degree student, there are totally 128 credits, including 30
common compulsory credits, 60 specialty compulsory credits and 38
specialty selected credits.
Faculty and Advisors
The EE department employs over 8 academic faculty members who come from a variety of extraordinary research
institutes and top industries in the world. Their research backgrounds are
organized into 8 major developmental areas of specialization: VLSI Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Bioengineering, Energy,
Imaging Processing, Computer Systems, Optics and Power Electronics. The

Developing Direction
The
developing direction of the department use electrical engineering course as the
basic structure and also focus on experimental ability. Following the trade of
the world market and under the strong strength of basic knowledge, NCYU EE
looks for the top technology techniques, which would fit with industrial need.
Two of our main dominating development directions, (A) Systematic group -
Communication, multimedia, electric electron, the design of embedded system,
SoC, and electromechanics (energy) combine. (B) Electronic group - FPGA/VLSI
design, semiconductor project, etc.
Career Perspective
Taught
by world class faculty, EE students explore subjects critical to advancement in
today’s high-tech society-from computer system and artificial intelligence to
circuit design and power electrics, electromagnetics and
communication theory. There are three career perspectives can be explored by
students. A. Electrical Engineering is still a main stream in Taiwan’s
industries. Starting salary in electronic companies for students with
bachelor’s degrees averages above 36000 NTD. B. EE department at National Chiayi University provides
an excellent research environment for people who would like to pursuit higher
degree. Students will combine fundamental science combined with the
excitement of discovery in the academic level. C. Studying abroad is
another great choice for students to seek higher accomplishment in their life.

Welcome
to the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at National Chiayi University.
Our faculty and students continue to advance the state-of-the-art, define new
directions for electrical engineering, and develop new technologies to help
society in the field of communication, bioengineering, energy, control, and
power electrics. Even more important mission in EE department is to continue commitment to our students in order
to help them learning, growing, and arriving their goals.
The
Department of Electrical Engineering at National Chiayi University was
established in August 2008. Today the department is the largest department in
the School of Engineering with nearly 8 faculty and
over 220 undergraduate and master students. The mission of the department is to
enlighten students’ intelligence and to cultivate their fundamental principles
so that scientific problems have been solved by students with undergraduate
level. Moreover, we also supports excellent environment to students for
studying and research.
The department employs over 8 academic faculty
members who come from a variety of extraordinary research institutes and top
industries in the world. Their research backgrounds are organized into 10 major
developmental areas of specialization, which are divided into seven thematic
laboratories: a. Intelligent Sensing, Learning, Recognition Laboratory, b. Integrated Circuit Design and Electro-Optical
System Application Laboratory, c. Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits and Systems laboratory. d. Signal Processing Laboratory, e. Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Laboratory, f. Optical Fiber
Communication Laboratory, and g. Automatic Control Laboratory. Besides, the department provides a computer classroom
for software development, an electronic circuit experimental classroom for VLSI
development, a multimedia classroom for interactive teaching, and a meeting
room for research discussion.
The Department also enjoys very close
relationship with industry, both in terms of research and recruiting. Numerous
companies participate in a variety of affiliates programs led by EE faculty,
such as the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Taipei Veterans GeneralHospital,
and the National Space Organization. There are many advantages to joining EE department
