NCYU Based English Tests

Placement Test

To guarantee effective teaching and learning, all freshmen are required to take a placement test simulating GEPT Intermediate level (listening and speaking) on campus during orientation. Based on their placement test performance, students are then assigned to courses classified into three levels: A, B, and C. The instructor will employ teaching material corresponding to the students’ ability. Students at level C are also required to attend the self-study program, which accounts for 10% of their academic grade.

NCYU English Proficiency Test

NCYU legislated the “NCYU Undergraduate English Proficiency Enhancement Policy” and in 1997 the faculty meeting further passed the supplement “NCYU Undergraduate English Proficiency & Graduation Eligibility Policy” along with the “NCYU Graduates English Proficiency Policy” to enhance students’ language performance. Specifically the above policies mandate that in addition to the academic credits counting towards the major, all undergraduates and graduates should demonstrate their English competence by achieving designated English standards prior to graduation.

The NCYU Language Center is committed to developing and implementing freshmen and sophomores English curriculum and catering study programs to individual needs. Our mission is to assist the University in meeting the challenges of the increasingly internationalized nature of higher education and prepare students for the accredited English proficiency tests required for NCYU graduation eligibility. Students failing those accredited tests should then take our NCYU Based English Proficiency Test on campus. Those who fail this on-campus test as well will attend supplementary courses at the Language Center and need to pass the Center’s evaluation for graduation eligibility.
